Alder Hey Hospital’s Phlebotomy service offers outpatient blood tests for children, young people, and adults who are referred by their GP or by the hospital. Blood samples are taken by a dedicated team of phlebotomists available by appointment only. Appointments for GP-requested tests are offered from 08:15 to 17:45, while those specifically for Alder Hey requests run from 08:15 to 17:00. All appointments are booked via a telephone line open from 08:30 to 17:00 Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays, and cancellations can be managed by phone or through an online cancellation service. The facility is equipped to support a diverse range of patients, with additional resources such as a Health Play Specialist available between 08:00 and 16:00 to help younger children manage their anxiety during medical procedures. The service also collaborates with a Learning Disability and Autism Team to ensure a positive experience for patients with specific needs. Clear pre-visit information is provided through leaflets and videos, ensuring that patients and families are well informed about the process. Guests are reminded to bring the GP request form to their appointment.
